Autoimmunity is the system of immune responses of an organism against its own healthy cells and tissues causing damage. Any disease that results from such an overreacting immune response is called an autoimmune disease. Examples are lupus, celiac disease, colitis, MS, rheumatoid arthritis, IBS, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, and many more.

The immune system is made up of a network of cells and tissues that work together to protect the body against inflammation or disease. However when the attack continues after the repair has been completed, when it starts to get rid of more cells that it should be, then symptoms of autoimmune disease will appear.

The immune system is over stimulated and attacks itself usually when:

  • We are not getting enough nutrition in our diet
  • We are not getting enough sleep
  • We have dysbiosis (imbalance in our gut flora)
  • We are consuming food that is highly inflammatory or we have intolerance reactivity
  • We have an infection or toxic exposure

There might be different symptoms, shows up as a different disease, but it goes back to all the same root cause, same type of triggers: diet & fitness; allergens, microbes and toxins.

We can mask autoimmune problems with medications or supplements, but only to realise that the problem comes back later with even more pain or outbreak. It is like turning off the light in the car that signals we need to have an oil change. We can turn the light off, but that won't solve the original problem. The autoimmune disease is like a light in the car, it signals that something is wrong and we need to fix it: change the oil - or in this case change our lifestyle: our diet, the sleep, exercise, etc.
